| District Technical Support Teams |

| District Technical Support Teams (DTSTs) have been set up to increase the capacity of the general health staff to offer leprosy services in integrated manner. DTSTs analyse the National Leprosy Elimination Programme (NLEP) indicators, identify problem areas and offer support to staff in addressing problems. A training module on leprosy has been developed for the Medical Officers. DTSTs also facilitate in capacity building of faculty, Post Graduates interns and final year Under Graduates of Medical Colleges as well as trainees of all health-training institutions. |

| Objective |
The main objective of the DTST is to strengthen integration of Leprosy into GHC services and facilitate for sustained quality leprosy services. |

| Specific Objectives |
- Realising highest quality of leprosy case diagnosis and treatment services in all health facilities;
- Building the capacity of GHC staff on clinical, managerial, analytical and supervisory skills;
- Maintaining high level of validity in recording and reporting;
- Maintaining adequate MDT supply at all levels;
- Removing any operational factors hindering leprosy elimination in the district.

| The DTSTs started functioning in 2001. The Society had set up DTSTs in 39 districts of A P, Orissa, Bihar and M.P. They extended their support in holding special campaigns and activities like SAPE, MLEC and BLAC. These services of the DTSTs helped the GHS staff to effectively carry out the leprosy activities the result of which is reflected in the epidemiological data presented below. |
