SREYASSU
 



LEPRA Society Sreyassu is one among the People Living with HIV/AIDS project working in Jaggaiahpet Mandal of Krishna District Andhra Pradesh. This Mandal has 27 villages & one town, covered 107,194 populations. The project established in the month of May’06 with the collaboration of KRISCHIP. Basic reason of the project establishment is Jaggaiahpet is one of the high prevalence Mandal as it has 6 Factories where in migrated population and Truckers mobility is prevalent.The significant support to run this project comes to LEPRA Society from TANA Foundation, USA.This project works in close coordination and collaboration with APSACS, (Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society) and the Telugu network
 

AIM: “To improve the quality of life of the PLHA and their right to Health”.

Progress of the Sreyassu:


A. PLHA Identification and Counseling:

Project identified 542 PLHA out of which adult 513 and child 29 and provides them counseling to on how to expand the life span through personal hygiene, Nutrition, Tuberculosis, and how to relive from the Psychological disorder.

 
B. Supports to PLHAs:
1. Clinical support: With the objective of reducing the opportunistic infection of the PLHA we conducted weekly clinic on every Thursday .Conducted 88 weekly clinics and provide clinical support to 389 PLHA for opportunistic infection like Skin infections, Urinary tract infections, PID, Dysentery, Oral Candiasis, TB symptoms, Asthenia /fever, Upper respiratory tract infections, Joint Pains etc.

2. Educational support: After infected with HIV/AIDS the PLHA Economic lively hood was not encouraged due to low financial resources some of PLHA children dropped outs from the schools and some the children suffering to continued the studies. At the juncture Sreyassu identified 94 infected & affected children’s and provide education support to drop outs children and children who are aspiration for continuing the school studies.
 

3. Nutrition support to foster care children: Provide Nutrition support to 21 foster care children.
 
4. Nutrition support to PLHA: With the objective of “To improve the Health of infected with HIV/AIDS by providing the Nutrition supplement”. We established the nutrition food unit on 14th sept’07.this activities contributed by Smt. Indira Dutt Chairperson- SCWEC and Managing Director of KCP cements, 2 rooms provided by local philanthropist and CARE India provide technical support. The staff trained at Tangellapalli village, Karimnagar Dist on Nutrition food preparation

      • 107 PLHA benefited under the following criteria
      • Infected Children-19.
      • Put on ART treatment & CD-4 less than 300 count - 24.
      • Pregnant and lactating HIV positive mothers - 4
      • HIV/TB co infection cases-18.
      • Nutrition problem PLHA-26
      • Sudden loss of weight -16.

C. Resource Center: The center was initiated with the objective of “To improve the economic lively hoods of the PLHA and their family members”.
 
1. Tailoring training:

    • 15 infected women (Widowed) getting training on Tailoring.
    • Tailoring Kits provided to the trainees.
    • The sewing machine was donated by Smt .Yogavalli garu.
 
2. Jute Handicraft training:

    • 60 Infected and affected People living with HIV completed  training on Jute handicraft from 28th December’07  to February’08.
    • The training period is 45 days.
    • Sri. Lagadapati Rajagopal, Member of Parlement, Vijayawada donated Rs.1 Lakh from his LIGHT (LANCO Institute of General Humanitarian Trust) NGO.
    • Sri Kakateeya Seva Samiti and local philanthropists provide lunch expanses to the trainees for 45 days
    • 21 Items learned by the trainees with in the time of 43 working days,
 
3. Computer training:

    • People are getting trained on Computers
 
D. Referral services:

    • Referred 110 PLHA for Cd-4 test and 32 put on ART.
    • Referred 63 People living with HIV for sputum test and 38 put on DOTS.
    • Staff referred 73 persons to care & Support centers - Freedom Foundation, Chinna Kakani, Guntur District,Care and Support center, Nunna, Vijayawada and CRESHE, Srirangapuram, near Kodad, Nalgonda Dist.
    • 25 positive ANC registered and counseled them for the advantages and necessity of NVP and followed up 17 ANC and new born babies administered NVP with the support of Jaggaiahpet VCTC. 2 ANC under gone MTP.
    • 7 baby kits supplied to new born babies.
    • Identified 32 discordant couples and educated them on safe sex and supplied condoms.
    • Facilitated SER loans to 3 People living with HIV/AIDS through NGO for home based Poultry form, Dairy form, and kirana.
 
E. Future Plan Activities:

    • To extend Medical services to People living with HIV to other Mandals. (Vatsavai, Penuganchiprolu).
    • To registered the Jute trainees into a CBO and facilitate to run the Jute production unit under Sreyassu.
    • To under take social marketing of nutrition food powder packets.
