Case Studies/ Success Stories
Mr. Laxman, 30 years old, and his wife are residents of Hyderabad. They were tested for HIV and both were diagnosed as positive. The couple was provided counseling in Niloufer Hospital after the wife conceived, and was followed up by out reach workers until her delivery. She was blessed with a baby girl and both mother and child were given NVP. The couple decided to undergo the procedure for Family Planning, and then opted for top feed for the child. After some time their family members came to know their status and none came forward to support them. Later he was diagnosed with TB, and started regular treatment
Due to ill health and stigma & discrimination from family members, he was unable to go to work regularly, and lost his job. The couple found it difficult to feed themselves andtheir child due to financial constraints, and developed suicidal tendencies. They wanted to give the child up for adoption. They approached the Out reach worker, seeking help.
The couple was provided with a job, and is now a part of the PPTCT plus family, rendering their services to other PLHAS.
