1. Brief note about Project & Activities
 
Leprosy Elimination Unit, Bargarh (LEU-Bargarh) was started in the year 2002 with support from Community Fund, UK for a period of 4 years (till Dec 05). Having initiated its intervention in a community approach to eliminate leprosy from 3 selected blocks of Bargarh district, the project achieved commendable results and in the year 2006 it extended its intervention to entire Bargarh sub-division covering a total population of 760,411 and was renamed as Bargarh Integrated Community Health Project (BICHP). In addition to Leprosy, the project started intervention in Malaria in two selected Gram Panchayat of Ambabhona block in the year 2007. At the outset the Prevalence rate was 24/10000 population in the district (at the inception of the project), which was the highest in the State, The PR reduced from 24 to 1.9 by the end of Sept.07. The New Case Detection Rate (NCDR) is 2.8, GII Disability rate (DR) is 3.7. Female rate – 40%, Child rate - 22% and the MB is 41%.
